A Dreamer's Motivations To Keep Moving Forward

Do you have a deep desire to achieve something great? Do you want to live a more satisfying life? Can you see yourself being happy and successful in every way? Do you believe in your own potential and that here is much more to you than meets the eye? If so, you are a dreamer. A dreamer is a person who is not afraid to challenge society’s norms and not afraid to tread their own path rather than following the well-trodden path. A dreamer is someone who is always willing to take a chance and always asks why before doing something that others are doing blindly. A dreamer is a person who has a great futuristic picture which they work to achieve at all costs. Dreamers are world changers.

Following your dreams, however, is a process and comes at a price. What is the process and what is the price to be paid? Be patient. All will be revealed. Patience, by the way is part of it. Get-rich-quick and easy success schemes don’t last. Brian Tracy states that “all successful men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.” Sadly but true, and in the words of Myles Munroe - “The poorest man in the world is the man without a dream. The most frustrated man in the world is the man with a dream that never becomes reality.”

You must plan your life with much more care and attention than you would plan your business and your work. Stop living by waiting on chance and luck to make you happy, rich or healthy. If most of us put just half the effort we put into our jobs into planning our lives we would be amazed at the difference that would make. You can take that first step of creating the life you want right now. One thing is for sure. The past is dead and gone. We can’t go back there. The future is the only thing we have control over. Right here and right now is the only time we have that control.

Similarly, the mind of man has unlimited potential. It has the limitless ability to create. Man has been on earth for thousands of years, yet we are still making new discoveries today and creating new things everyday. We cannot exhaust the creative power of our minds. The functioning of our minds remains, for the most part, a mystery even to modern day science. But even though we do not understand it’s functioning, we cannot deny its power. “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” These are the immortal words of Napoleon Hill, a man who truly understood that “there are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.” Marianne Williamson said – “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

It is the most important asset you will ever possess. Like most things in life, it is something everyone has, yet few utilize it well. While we all look to the outside to find the secrets to success, wealth and happiness, we neglect and disregard the power within ourselves: our own minds. The mind can be defined as “the human consciousness that originates in the brain and is manifested especially in thought, perception, emotion, will, memory and imagination.” One of the most enlightening and inspiring books I have ever read is “As a man thinketh” by James Allen. In this book he compares the mind to a garden. He says: “A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must and will bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.”

There is a reason why a lot of people don’t believe in positive thinking and that kind of thing. It is simply that they do not want to face the fact that their lives are totally in their own hands and they are afraid of the immense potential/results if they do so. Believing in positive thinking would mean that they cannot blame their lack of education, their parents, teacher or spouse for their failures. It is much easier to think there is some force out there called “destiny” that is just against you and takes pleasure in seeing you suffer. If only this didn’t happen or that had happened, you would be so much better off.

“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help with man with the wrong mental attitude.” says W.W. Ziege. The truth is that while you are not totally responsible for what does and doesn’t happen to you, you are responsible for how you respond to what happens to you. The truth also involves acknowledging that there are some things that are within your control and others that you cannot do anything about. If you focus your time and energy on the things you can change and stop worrying about the things you cannot change, your life will improve immeasurably.

There is a big difference between wishing and being a dreamer. Dreamers design their ideal life and work to achieve it everyday. They don’t believe in chance or luck. Wishers wait on a genii to grant their three wishes all their lives. The problem is, if the genii were to ever show up they still wouldn’t know what to wish for! Mark Victor Hansen concludes: “You control your future, your destiny. What you think about comes about. By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands: your own.”
