Berkongsi Hidup Dengan Anak-anak

How To Raise A Healthy Child - Healthy Eating Habit

The way children feel about food is as important as what they eat. If children adopt healthy habits by the time they reach the elementary school years, research shows they are more likely to eat well as adults, says physician Greenfield.

Teach Nutrition. Read nutritional labels out loud to your child. Explain which ingredients are nutritious, like whole grains, and which aren't, like refined sugar and hydrogenated fats. Involve your child in grocery shopping. For example, when choosing produce, ask your child to pick one color of the rainbow and buy a vegetable or fruit in that hue.

Don't Fight Over Cleaning the Plate. "The role of parents is to put forth good healthy foods. The role of the kid is to decide what to eat," says Greenfield. If kids are hungry, they'll eat, he adds. If you make something and they say they don't like it, don't force them to eat it, but do point out that it's the only dinner you're serving.

Make Mealtimes Enjoyable. Eat meals together as a family as often as possible; it's an important ritual of love and relaxation. Show pleasure during mealtimes; for example, it's definitely okay to say, "Yummmmm," says Greenfield.

How To Raise A Healthy Child - Connect With Your Child

Gaze, Hum, and Sing. Eye contact, humming, chanting, and singing all foster connectedness and enrich your relationship with your child. This gives the child the sense that he or she is safe and that the world cares and will respond to his or her feelings and needs. This is important at all times, but especially in times of distress.

Touch. If your baby wakes in the middle of the night, holding her close and soothing her with gentle rocking motions can help calm her. In general, the more you hold and carry your baby and are physically in touch with her wherever you go, the better. The most nurturing and comforting environment for a baby or small child is close to a parent's body or in his or her arms.

Speak in Private. No child likes to be embarrassed or look upset in front of other people, says psychiatrist Eve Dreyfus, M.D. If you want to talk to your child because she seems distressed or is acting out, go for a walk or wait until you're in a place alone together. When you offer criticism, do it gently and constructively.

MALACCA: Ten years of hard work paid off when this historical state was officially declared a “developed state” yesterday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made the declaration via tele-conferencing from Kuala Lumpur to thousands of Malaccans gathered at a grand ceremony in Stadium Hang Jebat in Krubong last night.
The crowd cheered and clapped when Najib made the declaration at the auspicious time and date of 2010 hours on 20.10.2010.

The event was themed “Developed Malacca 2010: Green Technology State City.”
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said it was a truly proud day for Malaccans as the state was finally recognised as a developed state by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

He added that the state would have a special one-off holiday today. Jon Hall, who has been leading the OECD’s Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies, said Malaccans had higher than the OECD’s minimum levels in virtually all indicators.

In Kuala Lumpur, Najib who made the announcement from the Putra World Trade Centre where the Umno general assembly is being held – said the Federal Government would give full support to Malacca.
“The people of Malacca should be proud that they have a hard-working and visionary leader,” he added.
Najib then made the official declaration and signed an electronic plaque declaring Malacca a developed state. This was sent to Mohd Ali via an electronic capsule.

How To Raise A Healthy Child - Ensure Good Nutrition

A healthy diet may help prevent food allergies, seasonal allergies, obesity, and other ailments that can stretch into adulthood. Good nutrition starts with infancy.
Breast-Feed. Mother's milk safeguards your infant's health better than formula, which doesn't offer the hundreds of healthy substances like fatty acids and growth factors found in breast milk. Benefits of breast milk include protecting your baby from childhood obesity, reducing the chances of allergies and asthma, and lowering the incidence of ear infections and diarrhea. Physician Russell Greenfield, M.D., recommends breast-feeding your child for one year. If you can't, choose a formula with added DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) or other omega-3 fatty acids, which may aid brain development.

Know When to Introduce Foods. Don't feed solid food to children before their digestive systems are ready. If they have solid food too soon, their bodies will not completely digest the food, and undigested food particles may enter their bloodstream and contribute to allergies, food intolerance, and other disorders, says naturopath Mary Bove, N.D. In general, babies are ready to try solid food at around 4 months if they are bottle-fed and 6 months if they are breast-fed, says Greenfield. Wait 18 to 24 months before introducing allergenic foods like citrus fruits, eggs, milk, pineapple, strawberries, and wheat, especially if allergies run in your family.
Broaden Your Child's Palate. As children begin to eat more solid foods, introduce them to a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes and other protein sources. The more foods children enjoy, the broader the range of nutrients they'll receive. Don't give up if your child likes only a handful of foods. You may need to expose her to a food eight to 10 times before she decides whether she'll eat it, says Greenfield. To make dinnertime easier on everyone, Greenfield asks his kids to taste, rather than finish, a new item.

Provide Healthy Beverages. "I push water to help kids develop a taste for it before juice or [cow's] milk," says Bove. Juice is high in sugar, posing a risk of cavities and blood sugar swings, and many children have trouble digesting cow's milk. Kids should drink a cup of water for every 10 pounds they weigh (up to eight glasses), recommends Greenfield. If you serve juice, dilute it with water, he says. Nutritious cow's milk alternatives include almond milk, rice milk, and soymilk.

Simple Ways To Move Our Body

You can start the process of weight loss now by adding a little more activity to your life. If you're not ready for a structured program, start small. Every little bit counts and it all adds up to burning more calories.
  • Turn off the TV. Once a week, turn off the TV and do something a little more physical with your family. Play games, take a walk...almost anything will be more active than sitting on the couch.
  • Walk more. Look for small ways to walk more. When you get the mail, take a walk around the block, take the dog for an extra outing each day or walk on your treadmill for 5 minutes before getting ready for work.
  • Do some chores. Shoveling snow, working in the garden, raking leaves, sweeping the floor...these kinds of activities may not be 'vigorous' exercise, but they can keep you moving while getting your house in order.
  • Pace while you talk. When you're on the phone, pace around or even do some cleaning while gabbing. This is a great way to stay moving while doing something you enjoy.
  • Be aware. Make a list of all the physical activities you do on a typical day. If you find that the bulk of your time is spent sitting, make another list of all the ways you could move more--getting up each hour to stretch or walk, walk the stairs at work, etc.

Why Our Body Need To Move

The truth is, movement is movement and the more you do, the healthier you'll be. Even moderate activities like chores, gardening and walking can make a difference. Just adding a little movement to your life can:
  • Reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes
  • Improve joint stability
  • Increase and improve range of movement
  • Help maintain flexibility as you age
  • Maintain bone mass
  • Prevent osteoporosis and fractures
  • Improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Enhance self esteem
  • Improve memory in elderly people
  • Reduce stress
So, even if you opt for small changes and a more modest weight loss, you can see the benefits are still pretty good. One study has found that just a 10% weight reduction helped obese patients reduce blood pressure, cholesterol and increase longevity.

Protein Helps Hair Growth

A team of researchers, led by Scott Snapper, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, has now determined that the protein N-WASP, which acts downstream of Cdc42 to regulate cytoskeleton reorganization, has a key role in skin function and hair follicle cycling by generating and analyzing mice lacking N-WASP in skin.

Analysis of the mice indicated that N-WASP is critical for cells of the outer layer of the skin to proliferate and for hair growth but is dispensable for wound healing. The role of N-WASP in hair growth was found to be a result of its key role in hair follicle cycling and in the maintenance and differentiation of hair follicle progenitor cells. As further analysis indicated that N-WASP regulated the function of the gene regulatory protein β-catenin in cells of the outer layer of the skin from hair follicles, the authors suggest that N-WASP promotes β-catenin-dependent gene expression, thereby supporting the differentiation of hair follicle progenitor cells.
